The Self-managed Care project was delivered by Co-operatives UK with funding from the Department of Health (under Section 64) over to period 2006 to 2009. The final report, ‘Self-managed care: a co-operative approach’ has just been published. The project aimed to increase the take-up of direct payments by under-represented groups, by developing a co-operative or social enterprise approach, which gives service users greater control over their care. Whilst originally envisaged to take advantage specifically of direct payments, these models are well suited to delivering the personalisation agenda.
