Welsh wonders

Cardiff University Welsh for Adults tutor Gareth Clee supported Centre learners.

Sut mae, bore da! Or maybe I should say prynhawn da or even nos da – depending on the time you read this article!

Centre clients are already able to receive business support through the medium of Welsh. As part of the Centre’s ongoing commitment to the Welsh language, more staff have received Welsh language training.

Welsh phrases like the greetings above have spread more widely across the Centre thanks to the weekly sessions organised by Admin Manager Rhys Davies.

The Centre has funded the Welsh classes run by Cardiff University’s Welsh for Adults programme. Classes began during October 2007 and ran until the end of April.

Training Officer Nicola Mehegan has enjoyed taking part so far and said: “I have always wanted to learn Welsh and think the Centre has given staff an excellent opportunity to do so. It would be great to be able to hold a conversation in Welsh and learning has been good fun! I would continue with Welsh lessons should the opportunity arise.”

Rhys added: “It has been wonderful to see so many Centre staff take an interest in learning the Welsh language. If enough staff interest is maintained the Centre may support further lessons.”
